This Ribbed Bucket Hat Crochet Pattern has a fun, ribbed design. Post stitches are gradually added throughout to create this interesting texture.

This hat is the 8th pattern in the Crochet Along for a Cause. We are making 1 hat per week to donate to a cancer center, hospital, school, or homeless shelter for 10 weeks. There’s always time to join! You can find all the details and hat patterns HERE.

Materials
100g worsted weight cotton yarn in 3 colors (I used KnitPicks Dishie)
G/4.0 mm hook
yarn needle
scissors

sc – single crochet
fpdc – front post double crochet
rs – right side
ws – wrong side

· Written in US terms

· ch 1 does not count as sc

· This hat is made from the top down in joined, turned rounds.

· To make this hat larger, go up a hook size or 2. Do not add or take out increase rounds. The stitch count needs to remain the same.

Approx Finished size (toddler) –
Length: 8”
Circumference: 18”

RIBBED BUCKET HAT CROCHET PATTERN

Make a magic ring

Round 1 (ws): ch 1, 6 sc in ring, join to first sc with sl st, pull ring closed tight (6 sc)

Round 2 (rs): ch 1, turn, 2 sc in each stitch around, join to first sc with sl st (12 sc)

Round 3 (ws): ch 1, turn, *sc in 1 stitch, 2 sc in next* repeat from * to * around, join to first sc with sl st (18 sc)

Round 4 (rs): ch 1, turn, *sc in 2 stitches, (sc, fpdc) in next stitch* repeat from * to * around, join to first sc with sl st (24)

Round 5 (ws): ch 1, turn, *sc in 3 stitches, 2 sc in next* repeat from * to * around, join to first sc with sl st (30)

fpdc in next rounds are made in fpdc below previous row

Round 6 (rs): ch 1, turn, *sc in 4 stitches, (sc, fpdc) in next stitch* repeat from * to * around, join to first sc with sl st (36)

Round 7 (ws): ch 1, turn, *sc in 5 stitches, 2 sc in next* repeat from * to  * around, join to first sc with sl st (42)

Round 8 (rs): ch 1, turn, *sc in 6 stitches, (sc, fpdc) in next stitch* repeat from * to * around, join to first sc with sl st (48)

Round 9 (ws): ch 1, turn, *sc in 7 stitches, 2 sc in next* repeat from * to * around, join to first sc with sl st (54)

Round 10 (rs): ch 1, turn, *sc in 8 stitches, (sc, fpdc) in next* repeat from * to * around, join to first sc with sl st (60 sc)

Round 11 (ws): ch 1, turn, *sc in 9 stitches, 2 sc in next* repeat from * to * around, join to first sc with sl st (66)

Round 12 (rs): ch 1, turn, *sc in 10 stitches, (sc, fpdc) in next stitch* repeat from * to * around, join to first sc with sl st (72)

Crown diameter is approx 5”

To adjust sizing, go up or down a hook size

Round 13 (ws): ch 1, turn, sc in each stitch around, join to first sc with sl st (72)

Round 16 – 27: repeat rounds 13 & 14 (ending with a round 13 repeat)

Round 38 (rs): ch 1, turn, *sc in 1 stitch, 2 sc in next, fpdc in next* repeat from * to * around, join to first sc with sl st (96)

Round 39 (ws): ch 1, turn, sc in each stitch around, join to first sc with sl st (96)

Fasten off. Weave in the ends.

  2. After the first colour change, are we actually supposed to repeat rounds 14 & 15 (as 16 – 27) instead of repeating rounds 13 & 14? As written, we’d have 2 consecutive rounds of sc and no way for round 27 to be the final repeat of round 13. Is the typo in round 15 “ch 1, turn, ch 1, turn,” not actually a typo as I had assumed? 🤔
