The Kid’s Velvet Sweater Crochet Pattern is the softest, coziest sweater I have ever made! (There is an adult version HERE) This pattern comes in sizes 5 – 12 and is perfect for the little one in your life! Trust me, they will love having this snuggly sweater in their closet. This is a really easy sweater to make. It’s all single crochet with a little bit of shaping around the neck. Because it’s a bulky yarn, it works up pretty quickly.

I love this sweater. I had one like it back in the 80, s. I love wearing the sweater, it was so soft. Ty for the pattern. I want the adult size tho.
Hi! I love this pattern! Any recommendations for teen sizing… small adults sized? I’d love to make this for my daughter but size 12 will be too small. Thank you!
Hi! I have an adult version. Would the adult small work?
I am not quite understanding if you are making the front and back as separate
Pieces. Do you have a tutorial on this pattern.? If not can you explain the part when you turn and work along the long side of the ribbed band.
Yes, front and back are made separately. After you make the ribbing, it will be a long and skinny rectangle. The long edge is the width of the sweater. Turn and work along the long edge of the rectangle.
Is the gauge supposed to be dc or sc? I’m having a hard time making gauge in rows using dc.
Oops! single crochet. I’m so sorry about that typo!!
That would explain why my sweater panels were SO tiny. 🙂
Thank you! I’m so excited to make these fir my daughters ?
Hi, can this be made with any 12 ply yarn? I can’t find velvet yarn in my craft shop.
Hi! Any bulky weight (category 5) yarn would work 🙂
Thanks Breann, I managed to find Bernat velvet yarn in Spotlight! I’m making size XL but I’m having some trouble with the sleeves. They seem to be really gaping. Should the decreases be on the top side or under the armpits? Sorry for so many questions. This is one of the first crochet garments I have made, and I am enjoying the pattern ?
Hi! The decreases should be in the armpit area. If it’s too big, you can always sew the armhole another inch or so 🙂
Hermoso!!!
Go onto the internet and Search for velvet yarn. 😉 Pattee
Hi, can this be made with any 12 ply yarn? I can’t find velvet yarn in my craft shop.
I’m not sure where I went wrong. I followed the pattern exactly. Used the correct hook. Even the Bernat Velvet yarn. I just completed the smallest childrens size and it’s nowhere near that size. I’ll be lucky if it fits a 24 months/2T. Any advice? It’s a beautiful sweater and turned out well, besides the size difference. Would like to make another but want to ensure the size is correct. Thank you!
Hi! Did you check your gauge?
No, I did not. I’m still a bit new to crochet. I always see the word “gauged” mentioned but never truly realized the importance. Now I know why my hats don’t fit either. I just looked up “gauge” and the importance of it. Now I know to really pay attention to it. Thank you!
