Hi, I’m Michelle and I run the yarny goodness behind YarnThrift! I love to create modern crochet designs for you and your home. I have been crocheting since I was about eight years old and love the freedom of being able to create my own designs. I have been able to follow my creative interests down many winding roads and most recently had the opportunity to design my perfect summer crop top, the Eucalyptus Crop Crochet Pattern. Being able to let my creative juices flow has been the most fulfilling journey, especially during the challenging year we all had in 2020.
My latest design is the perfect cropped summer tank top. With adjustable-length straps and cute shell-edge details it’s sure to become a summer staple. It features the sedge stitch, a beginner friendly stitch that uses only single and double crochet. The best part of this top is that it is size-inclusive and can be made for womens sizes S through 5X.
All you need for this pattern is some sport weight 2 yarn and a 4mm crochet hook. I chose to use Brava Sport yarn from WeCrochet but another sport weight yarn or lighter weight DK yarn will work as well as long as it matches the gauge. The top is designed to fit snugly and any yarn substitutes should have a little bit of give and stretch when swatched so I recommend an acrylic blend.

Pattern Notes & Stitches to Know
Notes:
-Pattern is worked in 2 body panels from side to side and then seamed together.
-Pattern is written separately for each size.
-If you need/want longer straps, you can add additional chains to the straps in increments of 2.
Stitch Abbreviations:
Ch – chain
Sp – space
St(s) – stitch(es)
Sc – single crochet
Sc flo – single crochet front loop only
Dc – double crochet
Special Stitches:
Sedge – sc & dc in same st
Shell – 5 dcs in same st
Sizing & Gauge
Gauge:
Un-Blocked: 8 stitches x 14 rows = 4” in sedge stitch
Blocked: 7 stitches x 9 rows = 4”
Sizing Chart (measurements reflected are blocked)
-Please note that the bust measurements reflect the maximum fit this size allows. For example, size small will fit up to a bust of 34”.
-Measurements reflect actual fit once worn so your panels may not measure out to half the bust size after blocking (i.e. for size medium, one panel will likely be around 13” after blocking but worn fits up to a bust of 38”)

I love your stuff BUT is there anyway you could also show the back’s of your idems along with the front’s that would be awesome Thank you 🙂
I have been wondering the same thing. Did you figure it out by any chance?
looks great. can you tell me how much yarn you need to complete the pattern?
Hi! I’m sorry, I don’t know. You’ll need to contact Yarn Thrift for that information 🙂 She is the designer for this pattern.
don’t know why there aren’t more comments on this post but this is such a great pattern! thank you for sharing 🙂 the top is really cute
Yes! It’s such a great pattern!
I’m having the same trouble as everyone else with the lack of clarity. I’m going to frog it and retry for the third time. I believe the issue is the on the rows where you chain 2 the chain is considered a Stitch but on rows that end in chain 1 its not counted as a stitch.
I’m having a heck of a time! I’m not at all a beginner but I cant make sense of this pattern. If anyone has progress pics or advice, or can connect me to the pattern maker, please share!!!
Don’t get the increase or decrease part. A chart would help for the visually inclined.
Me neither. After row 13 on size Large I end up on top of the strap again and don’t understand where the 25 sedges come from.
Hello! In size Large, after row 12 of the strap you end up back at the body of the top, but then row 13 days Decrease until you have 25 sedges. Can you please assist, as after row 13 is complete you end up again on top of the strap and not on the body?
Hi! Sorry, you will have to reach out to Michelle from Yarn Thrift for your questions 🙂
Could you please edit the pattern to have the amount of stitches at the end of the row? I will be also message on social media but the pattern just doesn’t make sense in some places and I don’t want to end up being short of stitches or increasing by accident
on the size small after row nine where you chain 14, is row 10 working on the chain 14 or so i just leave the chain 14 alone like i would a normal chain one? i’m not sure how to keep going
Hi Breann
Please can you tell me, at the end of the row, you chain 2 and turn, then skip the first chain and sedge in the next chain.
Does that mean it is increasing? You
Sedge in one of the chain stitches from the end of the row?
Thanks and sorry for asking such a dumb question. I can crochet but I just didn’t understand this. Thank you
Hi! You can contact Yarn Thrift for questions on this pattern 🙂
I wish there were pictures or a video to better show how to put this together. I had a difficult time figuring out which way to piece the panels and also, I don’t think I could properly understand how the straps are written because I feel like mine turned out all wrong. And it’s a bummer, because I LOVE this top! It’s so so pretty.
I’m glad to see I’m not the only one struggling. Beautiful pattern but I can’t get the increase/decrease to work out properly for the V in the middle. I’ve undone and redone it many times … quite frustrating!
Had a blast, frogged a couple of times until I understood the increases. The increases are on the even rows and basically one extra sedge per the increase row. Also I added a few rows to customize the size. The straps? Guessed that I had to sew them together after sewing the sides. The faint of heart might be missing the exact place where it says miss a stitch?
I just started this pattern. How is there only a 40 chain to start. I’m doing a large for my little sister and she wears an adult womans large. Also are you supposed to do a sedge st in the 2nd ch from the hook on the chain 2. I’m only on row 3 and I have all of these questions.
If you don’t know, how do I contact the designer with my questions.
The garment is being constructed sideways, so the 40 stitches will run from top to bottom. You keep going until it is wide enough to cover her front. The back to.
Is 40 too many when you measure it against her? I can’t remember how many I used. I will get back to you. The sedge stitch is a cool stitch.
