The Bahama Mama Ruana Crochet Pattern is a stylish, oversized, and flowy cardigan. It’s a great transitional piece for fall and spring!
This ruana is an such an easy pattern with just a two row repeat. It’s three rectangles sewn together and… BOOM! you have the cutest layering piece for fall! (or spring… or the Bahamas 😉 ) I know the pictures have nothing to do with the Bahamas, but I liked the cheesy rhyme so much that I couldn’t help myself.
Let’s talk yarn! I used Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton and I just love how easy this cotton is to work with. It’s a mercerized cotton so it has little bit of sheen to it and it doesn’t split at all when crocheting. You can find the yarn HERE. Any worsted weight cotton (or even acrylic!) would work great for this pattern.

Hi! I don’t have it as a PDF. It’s available here on Sewrella’s blog: http://www.sewrella.com/crochet-color-pop-striped-beanie-breann/
How many skeins of each color are needed? TIA
About 4 of the ecru and 2 each of the colors
This Ruana looks nice and loose. But I’m a size 2-3X. So I’m not sure if your XL size will give me the same amount of room as shown in your pictures. How can I increase the size or would going up in hook size help?
I haven’t crocheted in a very long time but have become obsessed with all the new yarns availability now. Especially the self-striping yarns and all the yarn cakes. I have quite the collection. I’m not sure if this pattern would work for them???
Any thoughts?
Hi! You can easily add more stitches to the starting ch 🙂 It doesn’t have to be any certain amount.
Do you think I could use a weight 3 yarn for this to give it a light weight feel?!
Yes, definitely! If you want it oversized like pictured you might want to go up a size 🙂
