Materials
100 – 150 yds Bulky weight (category 5) yarn – I used yarn I dyed myself
L/8.0 mm hook
yarn needle
scissors
pom pom (optional)

ch – chain
sl st – slip stitch
sc – single crochet
sc blo – single crochet back loop only
esc – extended single crochet (insert hook into stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through one loop, yarn over, pull through 2 loops)
esc2tog – extended single crochet 2 together

· ch 1 does not count as stitch
· This beanie is worked from the bottom up, starting with the ribbed edging. The main portion of the beanie is working in turned rounds.
· Pattern is written in 3 sizes. Teen/Small Adult, Medium Adult is noted in [ ], Large Adult is noted in { }

ARCTIC BEANIE CROCHET PATTERN
Ch 7
Row 1: sc in the 2nd ch from the hook and across (6 sc)
Row 2: ch 1, turn, sc in first stitch, sc blo in next 4, sc in last stitch (6 sc)
Repeat row 2 to Row 44 [48] {52} (6 sc)
Bring both ends of the ribbing together to make a circle. Single crochet the ends together, Do not fasten off.
You are now working in rounds around the ribbed brim of the beanie.
Round 1: ch 1, sc in the end of each row around, join to first sc with sl st (44, [48] {52} sc)
Round 2 – 10 [12] {14}: ch 1, turn, esc in each stitch around, join to first esc with sl st (44, [48], {52} esc)
Round 11 [13] {15}: ch 1, turn, *esc in 2 stitches, esc2tog* repeat from * to * around, join to first esc with sl st (33, [36], {39} esc)
Round 12 [14] {16}: ch 1, turn, *esc in 1 stitch, esc2tog* repeat from * to * around, join to first esc with sl st (22, [24], {26} esc)
Fasten off, leave a long end for sewing.
Use the long end to weave in and out of the top loops of the last row. Pull end tight to cinch closed. Sew the top closed. Weave in the ends. (photo tutorial for finishing bottom up beanies here)
